What to do for May Bank Holiday?

Another Bank Holiday again? If you look up in Wikipedia, you will know May Day is an international festival, also known as International Workers' Day or Labour Day, that's what we call it in China. Although I am student now, who can say study is not a kind of work, so I decide to celebrate this festival with other. And there are so many interesting events in Cardiff, how can I miss them.

After I read Hannah Waldram's these two so-called guides Cardiff today - Doctor Who tours, midnight walk and meet the doers and May bank holiday events: signing off for the weekend, I have my plan.

Friday, that tonight, some of my friends invited to watch the new released film"Iron Man 2". To be frankly,

GE2010: A Hung Parliament?

After Clegg and Brown visited Cardiff last week, I have become more interested in UK's politics. Today, I read a article on gairrhydd 26/April(Cardiff's Student Weekly), argued about a question, "What will happen in a hung parliament", which makes me think about the diversity of politic systems.

A hung parliament is therefore looking quite likely for the first time since 1974, when a February election produced no clear winners: of 623 seats, Wilson’s Labour won 301 and Heath’s Conservatives 297. Failed attempts by incumbent PM Heath to form a coalition meant that Wilson went on to lead a minority government. However it was still necessary to call another election in October 1974 to ensure the majority needed for strong government.

And I read many materials on this topic, such as this on Wikipedia, and an article"英国大选观察:选票不等于议席" in China, I found my answer.

The obvious negative of a hung parliament is that no party has the authority to legislate strongly. Without a majority, whoever leads the government will have to barter with other parties in order to secure votes in the Commons. This means that the price for allegiance over parliamentary Bills could be concessions on policies that prove highly unpopular with the public. Additionally, despite talk of Lib Dem coalitions, it may be that whichever of the big two parties form the backbone of the government will
have to ally with some of the smaller parties. This could mean the nationalists or, in worst-case scenarios, more extremist parties. The price for forcing Bills through could therefore be high indeed. Add to this the fact that the economy may suffer further if Britain is perceived as a country with weak government, and we could be in a similar situation to the worse aspects of the mid-1970s.

This is my final thesis project. I created info-graphic, motion piece. My objective is to make Japanese people to think about that everything happening here in Japan, isn't that normal. So I created this video from foreigner's point of view, rather than Japanese people's point of view. By the way, please don't call me racist, because I am one of short, small eyes Japanese ;P

Foolball Night: INT-BAR

Today is the semi-final of UEFA: INT vs BAR, I am  a fan of Inter Milan. When I bought a beer the Taf at around 7 pm, and talked with Yolanda, there was not so many people there. Then the match started at 8 pm, Yolanda went to Grad.C to watch the film"Battle Royale", many people rushed into this bar, there were 4 local UGs sitting in the front of me, and 2 guy from main land of China and another 2 guys from HK sittting at the back of me. These 4 local guys chatted so much that I even can't catch up with them. The 2 HK guys were also very interesting, one is a football fan while the other is not. The result is, one was always explaining to the other.

Inter Milan is super today, although FC Barcelona kicked the first ball in, Inter Milan won the game by 3-1. When it's almost finished, I went to Grad.C, one of my mates was there, two, he is also a fan of Inter Milan.

A sunny Sunday, a free trip in to the Castle

This Sunday is the last day of "RHS Show Cardiff", this is a fantastic show in Wales, lots of people across this country rush into Bute Park for this show, however, most of them are old man and old woman. Actually, I have been to this park in Friday and Saturday, I didn't go to the show, you know, the ticket isn't that cheap for a international student, plus it's not like a proper event for the people in my ages. I just walked around the show, and enjoyed the sunshine nearby. It's so nice that we have so clear weather here in Cardiff when some of European cities are suffering from the terrible volcano ash.

But today, I don't come here just for joy, I have a weekly run programme, every week I run for over half an hour, about 5km in the park if weather permits. Today, after I finished my run, I followed some people who just come out from the RHS show, some of them carried plants in their hand, some of them chatted about the interesting things in the show...they are really so happy! When we walked near the back gate of Cardiff Castle, some guys in front of us just walked into that gate without tickets, although there are two gate keepers sitting there! A couple in front of me talked about this, the wife said, we don't have tickets, can we come in like them? The husband said, of course, just walk with confidence. So, I followed, walked with confidence as he said, I successfully come into the Castle! To be honest, it's my first time to be in the Castle, it's amazing, no matter people say,"Cardiff can't be Cardiff without its Castle".

I don't want to teach the history lesson here, you can get this kind of information from it's official site or Wikipedia page. I would like to share the experience of this trip. Because we come into the Castle from the back gate, so it's not like a normal way. I first went to the "The Norman keep", I can get a great view both of north and south, the city is so beautiful in such a good weather. Then I come down, and went to "Ladies Walk", a long story here, however, it's under construction now. The next site is the "main building"(I don't know how to call that), I come into from the exit this time, wrong direction again. So, the first room is "the library", there are many old books in this room. Then I went to the biggest room(I forgot the name), the furniture and decoration are amazing here! I can't believe it. Then I went to a smaller room, for family meal, I think. After 10 minutes, I come down to "the entry hall", next time I should come here first. Here is a nice trip log from a Chinese visitor.

Anyway, this is an amazing trip for me, and it's free. My suggestion to some

Local

Try to find a job in UK

From Anti(@mranti), I knew the "纵横周刊" project. From this project, I knew some awesome Chinese guys who are doing very good job.

One of them is 曾飙, who is contributor to this project(his profile page), focusing on politics of UK. He is now studying psychology as a PHD student in Bristol University. After I read his blog, I found something more about him, he is working on his own project called "英伦在线", which also has a column on 1510. What's more, there are some very useful media links on his blog, such as Spectator, which is really a surpise to me. You know, my knowledge about UK media was just from this post, and Guardian is my favorite before that. And he also has a column about student life on BBC.

From BBC's this website(also called "BBC英伦网"), I found more awesome guys who is studying in UK, such as 李文勇, who successfully got a job from Tesco's "China Graduate Programme"; and Alice, who graduated from LSE, finally got a job in an investment bank, cool!

At last, I want to say learning English is essential, I really learned a lot from Anti's story(also well known as "新新闻人自学手册").
